How Do I Add New Images to Image Slider?

This walkthrough will explain how to add new images to your flash slider.  Please note, before you commence this process please ensure that any images you wish to use are already uploaded to the Image Manager

It is also best to ensure that any images you are going to load into the slider fit the same dimensions of those that are already there to ensure consistency.  To check the size of the image already uploaded, right click on it and choose 'View Image Info.'  Take note of the dimsensions as that is the size you will need to make any other images you wish to upload.

1.  Log into the CMS system

2.  Locate the slider – usually under Content > Global Content Blocks > Image Slider

3.  Slider will display as a series of images with what appears to be a bullet point separating them on the left hand side

4.  To add a new image at the start select the first image, press the up arrow, and then press Enter.  You will see a new bullet point added above the first image.

5.  To add an image at the end, select the last image and press the right arrow and then enter (new bullet point should add on the end)

6.  Place the cursor next to the new bullet point and Click 'Insert/Edit Image' button and locate the image in the Image Manager.

7.  Click 'Submit' to complete the process.

What Image Size Should I Use for my CMS Website?

While there is no set sizing for images loaded through the CMS system, it is always advisable to ensure that images on your site are as small as possible.  This has an impact in more ways than one.

First, page load times can be dramatically increased if your site is trying to load lots of high quality, large size images.  This is particularly the case if you have an image intensive website, or a gallery which displays a lot of images.

Second, when the page is attempting to load so many large size images this will have a direct bearing on the amount of data traffic that your site uses.  Depending on your package you may find limits on the amount of data traffic that your site is allowed.  Ensuring that images are reduced to the smallest possible size will help to minimise the data traffic of your site.

While the CMS system does have the functionality to resize any image on the fly, it is always a good idea to resize images where possible prior to uploading to avoid any of the issues above.

2.  Under the clip, you will find a Share button and when you click on that button another Embed button will appear underneath the video itself on that page.

3.  When you click on the Embed button, you will see a code similar to this:

*BUT* you do need to replace 'your_block_name' with the name that you called the new block.

10.  Then simply paste that tag into the page on which you want to display the YouTube clip.

What Text Can You Edit?

If you are viewing the front end of your website, and are able to select and highlight text in a particular section, but are unable to find it on the relevant page, then go to Content > Global Content Blocks and you will be able to find it there.  This is often the place where items such as phone number, contact details, taglines, etc can be found.

What Basic Text Editing Can I Do in CMS?

Basic text editing in CMS is simple.  It is simply a matter of clicking where you wish to type and start typing.  You can highlight blocks of text if you wish to edit sections of text at one time.  On occasion due to formatting and coding requirements for your site that you may find places where you are not able to add text.  If this is the case, either try placing text somewhere else on the page, or if the matter is urgent you may contact Sites n Stores to discuss your requirements.

Line Spacing:

When pressing enter in the CMS at the end of a line, it usually creates a ‘paragraph break’ which is a double space i.e:

This is a test paragraph.

I just pressed enter and it brought it down two lines.

Whereas you can press Shift + Enter and it will bring it down only one line i.e:

This is a test paragraph.

I just pressed shift + enter and it brought it down one line.

How Do I Format Text?

There are a number of options available to you to assist in formatting the text on your site.

The most commonly used is the 'Format' menu.  Here you can change between Header styles 1-6, as well as Paragraph text.  This gives you a diversity of different sized and bolded fonts to work with.  Using this menu only to achieve these goals will ensure consistency in the rest of your text across the site.

You also have available the 'Font Family' and 'Font Size' menus.  You can use these to make individual alterations to sections of text, however be careful using these as they will not change fonts across all pages.  If you do choose to use these it is advisable to update font across the site to ensure consistency.

You can also change font colour by using the 'Select Text Colour' option from just under 'Font Family.'

How to Create Subgalleries?

Once you are in the gallery view you can create sub-galleries to house your photos.  This is especially useful when you have a large number of photos to share as breaking them up in to sub-galleries allows for faster page loading times.  When you have a large number of big photos it can take a large time to load, but by breaking them up it makes the loading of your page much quicker as it is not trying to handle so many images at once.

To create a sub-gallery:

1.       Go to Content > Gallery

2.       Click on ‘Add Subgallery’

3.       Enter the gallery name, title, and a comment to be listed with the gallery if you wish

4.       Click ‘Save’ to confirm

5.       Subgallery has now been created

6.       Click Content > Gallery again to return to gallery list.  You can see the subgallery listed there.
